Day 2…no paci’s…”That was a good story Daddy,”

Tonight we were telling bedtime stories like we always do and after the story you started crying and asking for your paci. To try to distract you I asked if you wanted another bedtime story. You said yes as your cry became a quiet pout…” tell me a story about animals”…

Daddy:  Once upon upon a time there was a little girl…

Audrey (interrupts like you always do):  named Audrey and Amelia and mommy and daddy Martin.

Daddy:  That’s right, Audrey. The little girl named Audrey had a paci and she was going outside to play. She went out in the backyard and she saw a little cow that had a paci in her mouth. Audrey ran over to see the cow and said ” you silly cow!  Why do you have a paci?”  The cow replied, “I just had a birthday and I turned 3 years old.”

Audrey (interrupts again):  I’m 3 years old too daddy.

Daddy:  Wow!  That’s so cool. You and the cow are the same age! (We continued the story)…the cow told Audrey “Now that I’m 3 years old, I need to give my paci to a baby cow that needs a paci”. Audrey and the cow looked around the farm and saw a baby cow crying over next to the barn. So they went over to see why the baby cow was crying. Audrey asked, “Why are you crying baby cow?”  The baby cow said, “I don’t have a paci and I’m really sad!”  Then the little cow said, “I just had a birthday and I turned 3 years old!  I’m a big girl now and I don’t need my paci anymore. Do you want my paci baby cow?”  Baby cow cried, “Yes, I’m a baby cow and I need a paci!  Big girls like you and Audrey don’t need paci’s anymore!”  Audrey looked at the little cow and said, “She’s right little cow!  We’re big girls now and we don’t need paci’s!”  So Audrey and the little cow gave their paci’s to the baby cow and she was so happy!  The End.

Audrey:  That was a good story daddy!

I don’t know if it was a good story or if I successfully distracted you, but we sang Jesus Loves Me like we do every night and you went straight to sleep…without your paci. You’ve been saying “that’s a good story daddy” almost every night lately after we’ve made up bedtime stories. I hope to catch your sweet voice saying those words on video because they melt my heart every time. I love you Audrey!  Holding you at night, telling stories, singing “Jesus Loves Me”, and laying you in your crib…I don’t take these times for granted. They’re memories I will cherish forever. We may have taken your paci away…but you’ll always be my baby girl!
