Jesus Yuv Me

Daddy: What song you want to sing?

Audrey: Jesus yuv me.

Our nighttime routine is the best. We never really planned it or talked about it, but mommy and daddy have done our nighttime routine together almost every night since you were born. The only time we haven’t done this routine is when mommy was visiting Grammy and daddy had to stay and work.

Starts with bath time.  Your very first bath was definitely an experience. We tried to bathe you in the sink but we were nervous about the water temp and then it was the room temp was too cold. Then daddy started freaking out and Grammy was laughing because I’m sure it was very comical. But I didn’t think it was and I had to tell Grammy to stop laughing, but it’s funny now. What’s crazy is that no one really teaches some of these things. I could’ve used a little Bathing 101 during our birthing classes. But anyways, at the beginning bath time was a challenge. You weren’t crazy about the tub and it always seemed you timed a deuce just for the water. Eventually you became a water girl though and if we accidentally said the word bath, you would start heading towards the bathroom. Bath time is so much fun. We play, splash, sing, and pretend to swim.  What used to be a challenge is now so much fun.

Next is diapers, singing, and books.  Mommy normally does the diaper while dad distracts you with a book. You love pop-out books but you normally end up tearing the pages out. We’ll sing “Ten little monkeys jumping on the bed” and you’ll pretend to fall and bump your head. Sometimes it’s “1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive”. Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town are still some of your favorites. Your song list is very extensive.

Then it’s teeth brushing time. I don’t have to mention how tough your teeth are to brush cause you refresh your memory here.  I need to video it to believe it.

Next is one of my favorite parts. Most of the time you are already requesting Jesus loves me. So far, you have never ever requested a different song for the final bedtime song. I didn’t realize till a couple months ago that you had memorized every word. You started singing it with daddy one night and I couldn’t believe how well you did. We have sang Jesus Loves Me every single night for almost 22 months now. We normally sing it 3 times through, daddy give you a kiss and then mommy closes with a prayer.

“Now I lay me down to sleep.  I pray the Lord my soul to keep. May angels watch me through the night. And keep me in thy blessed site. “. Amen.

I’m so thankful that we made our bedtime routine into a mommy daddy event. It is a memory that we’ll both cherish forever. I love you girl.
